THE COLLECTIVE CURRENT

A Public Art Display Concept (Project Blueprint)

From our Project Blueprint, we went down the streets of Robson Square Vancouver to interview and gather notes from the public regarding any issues or problems that face in our city. With many mentioning “More Public Art”, our team decided to come up with one.

As a collective group of young designers, we looked at how our community works, and that is by people! We work together to get things done, and from the beginning of our schooling, we were taught to work together. Therefore, “The Collective Current” resembles how we are like a school of fish, working together as a team.

The proposed location for this public art work is Robson Square. A place of gathering and commute.

We decided to place our concept here at the heart of Vancouver where pedestrians can look up into the sky, filled with these colorful fishes that strikingly reflects sunlight onto the ground. Where this art piece if not only something to visually admire, but to experience.

From “Project Blueprint”, we were able to connect with our community, and really build towards spaces where people can connect to. With “The Collective Current”, it is a step forward here at YAC to use design to create positive impacts in our communities.
